A Closer Look at Viva Magenta, Pantone's 2023 Color of the Year

Not gonna lie, we weren’t too excited about Viva Magenta when Pantone announced it as the 2023 Color of the Year last week.

But now that it’s top of mind, we're seeing it everywhere—and nowhere—all at once, which makes it the perfect choice for a time when so many of us are mining for even the smallest bits of constancy amid immense change.

Magenta pops up in nature through glimmers. A fish scale, the sun on sandstone, a sparkling star in the darkest sky. In design, it's often the same—a pop here, a tiny accent there, never a full flood to dazzle the eye.

And in every case, magenta refuses be eclipsed by stronger tones or confused by simple pinks or purples. It's strong, inimitable, and exigent. So, yeah. we think we're in love.
